SaltMaskEn

This is NOT a straight replacement for a N95 mask. In a real emergency it is recommended to combine a full face shield with a filter mask. Here is an example from Prusa. https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/25857-prusa-protective-face-shield-rc1

However, unlike most homemade masks, this has an active filter.

https://www.nature.com/articles/srep39956 Theory of operation. The main improvement of my method is that by using carbonated water to crystallize the salt, you get more surface area per volume, and you do so in a way that can be replicated in the kitchen :)

Here's how.

How to Build a Carbonated Salt Filter

This should help in making sure that N95 masks are available to health care personnel who actually need them.

This simple mask will reduce you touching your lower face, and block aerosol and droplets entering your mouth and nose.

In addition, the salt filter will intercept aerosol and droplets coming into your mouth, and neutralize pathogens in them when it recrystallizes. If you are using a reusable filter carrier, replace your filters and sterilize your mask / filter carrier in alcohol regularly.

How to Use

Breathe normally. Resize for yourself -- it's easy to change sizes.

If you want a cooling fan, there's an adapter for a 50mm blower.

Tested on Solidoodle 3 and Monoprice dual extruder. Print in PLA.

You can make the active filter for this, as well, see below.

This mask uses a carbonated-salt filter that should improve reusability (the salt matrix will absorb water droplets and passively kill viruses while not in use).
